At a glance
This Privacy Policy applies to the Niyah mobile application (the “App”), the Niyah website (the “Site”), and related support interactions. “Niyah,” “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Niyah Labs, the operator of the App and Site.
Information we handle
Information stored on your device
The App stores the information needed to provide its features locally using device app storage and an on-device database. This may include:
- the display name you choose and whether setup is complete;
- prayer check-ins, prayer schedules, calculation method, time zone, dates, and timestamps;
- water entries, daily goals, custom container names and amounts, reset preferences, streaks, and on-device insights;
- language, theme, Bubbi visibility, personality, and outfit choices;
- notification settings, quiet hours, and the local reminder schedule;
- cached purchase-entitlement status and whether an app-review prompt has been shown; and
- widget snapshots and water entries made from a widget.
We do not receive this local routine data on a Niyah server. Your operating-system or device-backup provider may include App data in a backup according to your device and cloud settings, which we do not control.
Location and prayer-time requests
If you grant foreground location permission, the App obtains your device’s latitude and longitude to calculate prayer times. The coordinates and requested date are sent directly from your device over HTTPS to the AlAdhan prayer-time API. AlAdhan returns prayer times, the applicable time zone, Hijri and Gregorian date information, and a calculation method.
On supported mobile devices, the operating system may also reverse-geocode your coordinates into a city or region label. The App caches the schedule, that label, and a coarse location bucket rounded to approximately one decimal degree so it can avoid silently using a schedule from a previous area. Niyah Labs does not operate a server that receives or builds a history of your location. The App requests foreground location only—not continuous background location.
Purchases and subscriptions
Apple App Store or Google Play processes payment. We use RevenueCat to offer products, validate purchases, restore access, and determine whether Niyah+ or permanent ad-free access is active. RevenueCat may process an automatically generated anonymous App User ID, device and operating-system information, product identifiers, purchase and subscription status, last-seen time, Apple receipt data, and Google purchase tokens. We do not receive your full payment-card number. Purchases remain associated with the applicable store account under the store’s rules.
Notifications, widgets, sharing, and reviews
Niyah schedules prayer and hydration reminders locally through your device’s notification system after you opt in. The current App does not send remote marketing push notifications or upload a push token to a Niyah server. Home- and lock-screen widgets use information shared locally between the App and its widget extension.
If you choose to share a progress card, the App creates an image on your device and opens the system share sheet. The recipient or service you select then handles what you share under its own terms. If the App asks for a store rating, the request is handled by Apple or Google; the App only stores locally that it made the request.
The Site and messages to us
The Site has no account, contact form, advertising pixel, or behavioral analytics tool. Our hosting provider may automatically process standard request and security data—such as IP address, request time, browser and device type, requested URL, and diagnostic logs—to deliver, protect, and troubleshoot the Site. If you email us, we receive your email address, message, attachments, and any other information you choose to provide.
Advertising
The free version of Niyah displays banner ads supplied by Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK and Google’s advertising partners may receive or generate information needed to request, deliver, secure, limit, personalize where permitted, and measure ads. Depending on your device, region, and choices, this may include your IP address; general location inferred from the IP address; advertising ID or other app- or device-scoped identifiers; Niyah’s App identity; device model, operating system, language, App version, and network information; consent and privacy signals; ad impressions, exposure, clicks, and interactions; and diagnostic, performance, and fraud-prevention information.
An ad request necessarily tells AdMob that the request came from Niyah. Beyond that App identity, Niyah does not send your precise GPS coordinates, city label, display name, prayer check-ins, prayer schedule, hydration entries, goals, streaks, insights, reminder content, or religious inferences as ad-targeting parameters. Ads are shown only in the free tier. An active Niyah+ entitlement or permanent supporter ad-free entitlement removes Niyah’s in-app ads.
Niyah uses a consent or privacy-choice flow where required. This may include Google’s User Messaging Platform, a certified consent-management platform, and Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt if access to the iOS advertising identifier is requested. Depending on your choice, ads may be personalized, non-personalized, or limited. Even non-personalized or limited ads can use information such as IP address, device or App information, and ad interaction data to deliver an ad, cap frequency, measure results, and prevent fraud. You can revisit applicable ad privacy choices in the App and use advertising controls in your device settings or Google’s ad settings.
Health platforms
The App does not currently connect to Apple Health or Health Connect. If that changes, we will update this policy and request any permission or consent required before the new processing begins.
How and why we use information
We process information only as reasonably necessary to:
- provide prayer times, check-ins, hydration tracking, insights, reminders, widgets, personalization, and sharing;
- process and restore purchases and prevent entitlement errors or fraud;
- respond to support, privacy, and legal requests;
- operate, secure, debug, and maintain the App and Site;
- fund the free tier by delivering, measuring, frequency-capping, and protecting banner ads, and personalize them only when permitted by your choices and applicable law; and
- comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
Where law requires a legal basis, these activities rely on performing our contract with you, your consent (including for location, notifications, personalized advertising, or tracking where required), our legitimate interests in operating and securing Niyah and delivering contextual or limited ads where permitted, and compliance with legal obligations. You can withdraw permission-based consent through the App’s available privacy options or device settings, but the related feature or type of ad may stop or change.
We do not use prayer check-ins, hydration history, precise location, or religious inferences for targeted advertising, profiling, or decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not sell those categories of information. If you allow personalized advertising, permitted advertising identifiers and ad activity may be disclosed to Google and its advertising partners. Some U.S. state laws may define that disclosure as “selling,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising even though we do not receive money for the data itself. Where those laws apply, we provide the required notice and a way to opt out.
When information goes to others
| Provider | Purpose and information |
|---|---|
| AlAdhan | Coordinates and date are sent to return prayer times and calculation information. |
| RevenueCat | Anonymous identifier, device details, receipts or purchase tokens, and entitlement status are processed to manage in-app purchases. |
| Apple / Google | Location services, reverse geocoding, local notifications, widgets, app reviews, store payments, refunds, and device backups are handled under your platform settings and provider terms. |
| Google AdMob and ad partners | IP address, general location inferred from IP, Niyah’s App identity, advertising or app-scoped identifiers, device and App details, consent signals, ad delivery and interaction events, diagnostics, measurement, and fraud prevention. Personalized use depends on your choices and applicable law. |
| Vercel | Hosting, content delivery, request logs, diagnostics, abuse prevention, and Site security. |
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or others, in connection with a corporate transaction subject to appropriate safeguards, or when you direct us to do so. Providers may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States, where privacy laws may differ.
Retention and security
Local App data remains until you delete it, clear the App’s storage, or uninstall the App, subject to device backups. Removing the App may permanently remove your history. We do not currently offer a Niyah cloud backup or account recovery service. RevenueCat, Google AdMob and its advertising partners, Apple, Google, AlAdhan, and Vercel retain information under their policies and legal obligations. We retain support emails only as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain records, resolve disputes, and comply with law.
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the information we handle, including encrypted network connections to external services. No device, transmission, or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and privacy rights
- Decline or revoke foreground location and notification permissions in device settings.
- Change reminders, personalization, language, theme, water goals, and related settings in the App.
- Choose whether to create or share a progress card and where to send it.
- Revisit available ad privacy choices, decline personalized advertising where offered, and use your device’s advertising-ID or tracking controls.
- Remove Niyah’s in-app ads with an active Niyah+ or permanent supporter ad-free entitlement.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions, request eligible refunds, and control device backups through Apple or Google.
- Delete local data by clearing App storage or uninstalling the App, subject to backups.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information we control, withdraw consent, appeal a decision, and complain to a privacy regulator. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a right. Because Niyah has no account and we do not receive your local history, we usually cannot identify, access, export, or delete data that exists only on your device. Google also provides advertising controls through your device settings and Google services, and requests concerning Google’s independent processing may need to be directed to Google.
To make a request about purchase data, email privacy@niyah.ca with a relevant store transaction identifier if available. Do not send full payment-card information. We may verify your request and retain information where an exception or legal obligation applies. The Site does not respond differently to “Do Not Track” signals because it does not use cross-site behavioral tracking.
Children’s privacy
Niyah is a general-audience wellbeing and faith companion and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 on our servers. A parent or guardian should supervise a minor’s use, review location, notification, advertising, and purchase settings, and approve purchases. We do not knowingly use personalized advertising for a user we know is under the applicable age of consent and apply child-directed or under-age ad-request treatment where required. If you believe a child provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where required.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as Niyah changes. We will post the revised policy and update the date above; where required, we will provide additional notice or ask for consent. Questions and privacy requests may be sent to Niyah Labs at privacy@niyah.ca.
